After the birth of my first son, my friends suddenly started calling me "Mother Linda," a moniker I quickly grew to love because it somehow, however symbolically, tied me to Mother Earth and her wisdom. So when I wrote Ode to Sucanat: The First Sucanat Cookbook in 1993, I decided to adopt this moniker as my publishing persona. Since then, Ode to Sucanat, my first attempt at food writing and publishing, has brought me nothing but joy. Through it, I have met and corresponded with wonderful like-minded people.

Encouraged with this small success, I decided to tackle a biggercookbook. So after seven years of research, recipe testing, and writing, Bulgarian Rhapsody: The Best of Balkan Cuisine is coming out in May 1998. Since one of the best windows into a culture is its cuisine, Bulgarian Rhapsody explores the culinary and cultural traditions of this wonderful country that lay hidden behind the Iron Curtain for almost fifty years.

But you will soon find out from this Website that Mother Linda has a wide range of interests. I started the Independent Cookbook Author's Network, with the very appropriate acronym of ICAN, to advise and help others bring their culinary works of art to fruition. For some, self-publishing will be a valid avenue, for others it will not be. In the coming years, I plan to profile author's who have successfully self-published their own cookbooks to serve as an information tool for those deciding what to do with their own culinary manuscripts.

Another pet project is aid to Bulgaria and in the next few months I plan to start a 501 (C) 3. And inspired by my job as the life editor at The World & I magazine, where I have been blessed with the job of assigning and editing articles about travel, cuisine, and people around the globe who are "making a difference," I have begun to compile a personal recommended reading list of literary works that I think will give the reader an especially revealing eye into a particular country, region, or culture.
